Autocomplete Rules Overview

What is Autocomplete Rule?

Autocomplete Rules, which is also a part of the HCM Experience Design Studio takes the user experience to the next level by allowing customers to define very specific criteria for defaulting and validation across its suite of products. 

Example: Autocomplete = Auto populate (Default) + Auto correct (Validate)

 

How to Enable Autocomplete Rules

Navigate to the Setup and Maintenance work area and search for the Manage Profile Options task.
Create the HCM_BUSINESS_RULES_EDITOR_ENABLED profile option.
Enter Business Rules Editor Pages Enabled in the Profile Display Name field
Select Global Human Resources for the Application and Module.
Enter a description, such as Enable the Autocomplete Rules pages.
Specify the start date, such as 01/01/1950
Click Save and Close.
Navigate to the Setup and Maintenance work area and search for the Manage Administrator Profile Values task.
Search for the HCM_BUSINESS_RULES_EDITOR_ENABLED profile option.
Click the Add icon in the Profile Value section.
Set the Level to Site.
Copy and paste the key provided by Oracle in the Profile Value field.
Click Save and Close.

 

When to use autocomplete rules:

Full-time/Part-time status
Probation Period
Collective Agreement
Union and Bargaining Unit
Salary Basis
Salary Amount
Payroll

 

Validation Examples

Prevent retroactive/Future dated Transaction
Must be the start of the current or future Payroll cycle
Prevent special characters in the Names and Address field
Ensure phone number formats by type/country
If the location is X then Department must be Y
Don’t allow termination if Employee is on Leave of Absence
Prevent Line managers from reducing salary
And much more.

 

When not to use Autocomplete rules

Data Synchronization
Initiating New Flows
Restricting values in LOVS
Forcing a user to visit a region
Hiding or showing attributes
Validating or defaulting values on Classic UI
Scanning the full Database
