According to Oracle’s documentation on Person Number Generation Methods, there are three person number generation methods available for your enterprise on the Edit Enterprise page of the Manage Enterprise HCM Information task in the Setup and Maintenance work area:
Manual: You can manually enter person numbers for workers and contacts.
Automatic prior to submission: Person numbers are generated automatically when you save a new worker or contact record.
Automatic upon final save: Person numbers are generated automatically when you submit a new worker or contact record.
Overall, The Automatic person number generation methods are all numeric based. If the customer requires an Alphanumeric person number, they can use the Manual generation method and enter their person number during the new hire process. Note that regardless of the person number generation method, Emergency contacts will always use the Automatic generation method.
