How to Display Preferred Name

Manage Person Name Formats

Display Name - Used when a person's name is displayed on a page. The person header in person management is a good example of where Display Name is used.

Full Name (don’t update this one) - Used when a person's name is required for reporting purposes. It is also used as part of the Person Search Keywords and Name fields.

List Name - Used when a person's name is displayed and available for sorting data. Person search results table is a good example of where List Name is used.

Preferred Name is just one of several name attributes that could be displayed and searchable. Please note that it is actually the KNOWN_AS column in the person names table. Display Name is a name that is constructed based on individual name attributes, like first name, last name, known as etc.

To show the Preferred Name in pages and make it searchable, format the List Name and Display Name accordingly adding the preferred name attribute “known as” to the name structure using brackets and spaces to enhance the appearance.

After saving, Run ESS Job Apply Name Formats to Person Names after edits for parameter List Name and then again for Display Name.

Run Update Person Search Keywords to make it searchable in the Keyword field. It is also searchable in the name field.
