How to Import the geography data

If you have a large volume of geographic data, importing data is the most efficient way of creating your geographies. You will import both sets of data from files.

You have the choice of using the user interface to enter data directly from the Manage Geographies page.

The method you use depends on the complexity and volume of data and your preference.

To build the geography reference data for a country, you must have the following.

- The Geography Structure (Country Structure)

- The Geography data itself (Geography hierarchy)

If you are using the geography data for countries like India, the US, and all of which are very huge in structure probably it is better to do the import. Because like you take India we have around 28 states and in each state, we have so many districts, and in each district, we have so many cities, same in the US they have 52 states each state they so many counties, and under each county, they have so many cities, so it is the very huge volume of data so for this data we will use import option If we will talk about Singapore it has very less amount of data so for this country we can manually enter the data for this we have the specific user interface called manage geographies where we can manually enter the data.

Because first, you need to fix the country structure at what level country structure we will use.

Like I have a country below country I want to state below state I want county below county I want city below city I want zip code so this is the structure which is you need to fix first, then what is the country, what are the states, what are the counties, what are the cities, what is the zip code that is the actual data so the order when you are going to implement the geography model is always structure first then only the actual data you cannot have the data first then structure it will not allow like that.

How You Import Geographies: - A geography, such as Tokyo or Peru, describes a boundary on the surface of the earth. You can create new geographies by importing data through interface tables. There are two options for populating the interface tables: using the tool of your preference to load the data or using file-based data import. If you plan to provide the data details in a source file, use the file-based import feature. If you will populate the interface table directly, run the geography loader process to import the data. Having a good understanding of the import entity, interface table, and destination table will help you prepare your import data.

Note: - You must use File-Based data Import to import your data in the cloud implementation because you cannot populate the interface tables directly in a cloud implementation.

Whereas the volume of the country structure like India, US, and UK all, if it is bigger in nature we can make use of the “File-Based Import Process” for that first you need to prepare the data file mostly “.CSV” file will be used for geographies so we have to prepare that file which is “.CSV” file and then we have to go to create import activity there you have to set up the import activity.

So you have to give a name, you have to bring your file from desktop or wherever you have saved it, then you have to map the fields then you have to schedule import, or submit it, review and activate, then we have to monitor the status of the import process if it is completed successfully then fine If it is completed with the errors then you need to go back check your file whether it is correctly prepared or not, accordingly it will be imported. Let me show you the. CSV file

Setting Up Validation: - After the import is completed successfully, turn on the geography validation for each country so that your application can use the geography data that you have imported. Or once your data is available either through the managed geographies or file-based import activity then you will be able to do the validation so that your application can use the geography data which you have entered into the system for the validation.

You can track the progress of the import process by selecting Scheduled Processes from the Navigator.

After the import is complete, you can search for the country again on the Manage Geographies page. Checkmarks now appear in the Structure Defined and Hierarchy Defined columns indicating the import was completed successfully

Next, click the Validation Defined icon to define the validations, enable List of Values, and choose the address style format for a country as set up before. For more information, see the "Geography Validation: Explained" topic.
