Managing Assignments in an Organization

An assignment defines a person's role, including job, position, pay, and work details. Each assignment has a unique number, a primary status, and can be active or inactive, ensuring proper workforce tracking, reporting, and payroll eligibility. Assignments are managed using the Manage Employment task in Person Management. Primary assignments help in reporting, while statuses control activity and payroll processing. Assignments can be manually or automatically numbered, with prefixes for employees (E), contingent workers (C), and nonworkers (N). This ensures accurate workforce management and compliance.

  • Assignment Numbers

    • Assignments are identified by unique assignment numbers.
    • Automatically assigned numbers use prefixes based on worker type:
      • E (Employee) – Example: E45678, E45678-2
      • C (Contingent Worker) – Example: C45678
      • N (Nonworker) – Example: N45678, N45678-2
    • Suffixes differentiate multiple assignments of the same type for the same person.
  • Assignment Names

    • Assignment names provide an easy way to identify assignments.
    • By default, names are not visible but can be enabled by the enterprise.
    • The assignment name is usually the job title (e.g., "Sales Director"), and a suffix is added for additional assignments (e.g., "Sales Director-2").
  • Assignment Statuses

    • Assignment statuses determine if an assignment is active, inactive, or temporarily suspended.
    • They also control payroll eligibility.
    • Certain actions automatically update assignment statuses (e.g., new assignments are set to Active – Payroll Eligible by default).
