A global temporary assignment refers to the temporary transfer of an employee from one legal employer to another, such as a Canadian employee assigned to a U.S. office for a specific period. These assignments are managed within the Manage Employment task in Person Management to ensure seamless tracking and transition.
When a global temporary assignment is created, the employee's original assignments in the source work relationship are automatically suspended, typically marked as Suspended-Payroll Eligible by default. However, specific assignments can remain active if manually selected. The End Global Temporary Assignment action is used to terminate the temporary assignment and restore the employee's original assignments on the specified return date.
Payroll processing is not automatically transferred when an employee is on a global temporary assignment. In cases where Oracle Global Payroll is used, a notification is sent to the Payroll Administrator, who is responsible for manually transferring the employee to the appropriate payroll system. This structured process ensures that international employee assignments are effectively managed while maintaining accurate employment and payroll records.
